Adriano Amaralʼs work serves as an examination of the nature of things in the world; their substance, value, materiality, and mutability. Blurring the boundaries between object and space, composition and dispersion, painting and sculpture, Amaral creates site-specific installations, responding to the spatial and architectural elements of the exhibition space. His alchemical sculptural installations forge inhuman worlds from ordinary objects. Working with sporting equipment, soil, silicone, spirulina, and an assortment of other materials, Amaral creates mutant assemblages in which the gallery space is transformed into a living environment.
After completing his master’s degree at the Royal College of Art in London in 2014, he was awarded the Kenneth Armitage Young Sculpture Prize in the same year. Amaral did a two-year artistic residency at De Ateliers in Amsterdam and received the Mondrian Fonds Work Contribution Proven Talent in 2017.
