PM8/“Chico Salas” marks the first presentation of the PM8/Francisco Salas program in São Paulo, generously hosted by Martins&Montero.
With this exhibition, we sought to extend our gallery’s program beyond our own premises, presenting a freshly curated group show to a São Paulo audience. The exhibition includes a significant selection of artists from our roster—some of whom are exhibiting in Brazil for the first time: Loreto Martínez Troncoso (Vigo, Spain, 1978), Elena Narbutaitė (Vilnius, Lithuania, 1984), Rosalind Nashashibi (Croydon, UK, 1973), Gabriel Pericàs (Mallorca, Spain, 1988), Algirdas Šeškus (Vilnius, Lithuania, 1945) and Gintautas Trimakas (Vilnius, Lithuania, 1958).
The show reflects the connection between PM8/Francisco Salas, the city of São Paulo, and the gallery owners Jaqueline Martins and Maria Montero, who generously invited us to occupy a part of the Martins&Montero gallery with a project conceived especially for them.
The result will be a show that inhabits areas of their gallery not normally used at Martins&Montero. We will feature works from our program in unexpected places by designing a fresh parcours populated with the work of our artists—an exciting discovery walk through the impressive 1950s house on Jamaica Street where the gallery is located. In doing so, we invite visitors to experience part of our program outside the comfort zone of our own gallery space.
This presentation will be in dialogue with the show presented by Brazilian artist Michel Zózimo, also on view at Martins&Montero.
