Martins&Montero presents “solo vivo en el mundo pues no hay donde vivir”, a solo project by Jota Mombaça at the booth 9P07 for ARCOmadrid 2025. As part of the program “Profiles: Latin American art”, the section is curated by José Esparza Chong Cuy.

Departing from Marilene Felinto’s iconic novel, As Mulheres de Tijucopapo (1982), this series of works continues Jota Mombaça’s engagement with the emotional politics of migratory movement and return. Through mixed-media compositions, Mombaça looks at her own journeys, without ever attempting to produce a perspective limited to social realism — rather, the works evoke imaginary landscapes, dreamt characters and anomalous cartographies of a migrant’s path.
